The Smell of Lavender

July 3, 2009 •

Walking around Mercer Island yesterday, we enjoyed the sights and smells of lavender blooming everywhere. It’s early summer here, with long and sunny days; colors don’t start fading until sunset begins around 9:30 PM. Just perfect for dinner and a glass on wine on the deck overlooking the hills that ring Lake Washington.

The smell of lavender triggers fond memories of last summer’s trip to Provence for an Anusara yoga retreat with some girlfriends from my days at Apple. We passed this hill town as we were driving through the countryside, leaving southern France and heading north for a weekend in Burgundy.

Meanwhile, here in Seattle, we’re getting ready for Independence Day fireworks and gourmet barbecues with friends.

Happy Fourth!
