Celebrating Earth Day

April 22, 2009 •

For 10 years we have been lucky enough to be stewards of a small but beloved property that includes a tidal marsh on Cape Cod, adjacent to 100 acres of conservation land (a mix of second growth forest and tidal wetlands rich in birdlife). It’s a place of the heart.

Looking closely, you can see a great blue heron fishing in the tidal pond.

To celebrate Earth Day, I bought an eco-friendly yoga mat and a recycle kit. The new mat is designed to minimize slippage from sweaty hands and feet — a disadvantage of my old mat during intense practices. I hope that the person who receives the recycled mat will be able to enjoy slip-free asanas.

More importantly, we replaced our aging, 19-year-old gas furnace with a hybrid system that claims 95% efficiency. Great comfort, better energy conservation.

Happy Earth Day.
