We know early spring has arrived on Mercer Island when the trillium plants bloom in the forested park across the street.
During our late afternoon walk we saw the first trillium blossoms of the season. We knew the cherry trees were in full bloom, but didn’t realize that shade-loving plants like these were blossoming too.
Beautiful reminders that now is the time to pay close attention to minute changes in nature’s bounty. Otherwise we wouldn’t notice the progression: brave azaleas, bud break on trees, early signs of budding lilacs. Dandelions.
These signs of spring remind us that maybe it’s time to dust off the tandem bike, and get back in shape for summer biking.
Tomorrow will be warm enough to doff our sweaters and jackets and pretend that winter is behind us. (We Northwesterners know better…)
